How we calculate UGC NET Marks

Total Score = (Correct answers in Paper 1 × 2) + (Correct answers in Paper 2 × 2)

Percentile formula:

Percentile Score = (Number of candidates in your shift with a raw score ≤ your raw score ÷ Total number of candidates in your shift) × 100

In practice, this means:

  • The final result and category-wise cutoffs are based on percentile, not raw score alone

If it ran across several shifts (common for high-volume subjects like Commerce, Political Science, or English), percentile is what actually determines qualification — which is why two candidates with the same raw score can end up with different outcomes if they sat different shifts.

UGC NET Qualifying Marks and Cutoff 2026

To be considered for Assistant Professor eligibility, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), or PhD admission (UGC NET scores are now accepted for PhD admission at many universities), candidates need to clear both:

  • A minimum aggregate percentage:
    • General category: 40% aggregate (approx. 120/300)
